Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Packaging Design Engineer to join our team at SWJ TECHNOLOGY, LLC. As a key member of our supply chain optimization team, you will be responsible for designing and developing returnable and expendable packaging solutions for individual piece parts and bulk shipping.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Establish packaging and processing specifications at the part number level for new product introductions, cost savings, or other supply chain improvements.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with facility professionals on packaging issues related to receiving, warehousing, and/or line side delivery.
  • Cost Analysis and Optimization: Perform cost analysis on current packaging processes and recommend changes where appropriate.
  • Project Management: Lead medium to high-risk Green Belt projects with product and logistics groups for Continuous improvements & Cost savings and Avoidance.
  • Supply Chain Management: Ensure parts are protected, shipped, and received to the facility and delivered to the customer in a usable fashion.
  • NPI Support: Provide support to Engineering, Manufacturing, Logistics, and Part Suppliers in developing packaging solutions to machine components.
  • Packaging Solutions: Develop packaging solutions to protect finished painted components.
  • Transport Efficiency: Design for transport efficiency.
  • OS&D Damage Reduction: Packaging optimization for OS&D Damage reduction.
  • Containerization Analysis: Perform containerization analysis, testing, and quoting.
  • Pilot Phase Validation: Validate new packaging and containers during pilot phase.
  • Storage and Ergonomics: Coordinate with operations for storage and ergonomic considerations.
  • Assembly Planning: Coordinate with assembly planning for line-side storage and ergonomic considerations.
  • Kitting and Sequencing: Develop kitting/ sequencing packaging for in-plant use. Repack reduction.
  • Returnable Quantities: Validate returnable quantities through simulations, MOQ adjustments and PFEP updates.
  • Safety and Quality: Resolve safety and / or quality issues caused by current packaging.
  • Customer and Partner Issues: Resolve issues reported by customers and process partners.
  • Supplier Packaging Requirements: Develop, communicate, and maintain supplier packaging requirements.
  • Audit and Compliance: Audit conformance to packaging specification.
  • Joint Process Improvement: Joint Process Improvement with packaging vendors and purchasing.
  • Custom Packaging Concepts: Create Custom packaging concepts using 3D modeling software (i.e. Pro-E).
  • Supplier Design Proposals: Research and analyze supplier design proposals, specifications, and drawings to determine time and cost feasibility to complete projects. Packaging Specifications database and documentation.
  • Data Analysis and Sustainability: Data Analysis, Sustainability reduction.
  • Returnable Packaging Maintenance: Manage repair/maintenance of Returnable Packaging.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor or Master of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering, Packaging, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent degree.
  • Experience: 2+ years of Packaging industrial design experience, 1+ years project management experience.
Required Skills
  • Packaging Experience: Experience in Packaging - related, Project management, identifying cost reduction opportunities.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborating with cross functional teams, and 3D modeling – Creo.
  • Communication Skills: Strong Oral and written communication skills, Ability to work with diverse group of stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
  • Packaging Degree: Packaging degree preferred.
  • Problem-Solving: Develop and deploy creative / original solutions to complex problems.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Interpersonal, teamwork, organization, and communication skills.
  • Industry Experience: 4+ years of packaging design experience in automotive or similar industry, Logistics engineering experience, Supply chain knowledge, Transportation and logistics knowledge.
  • Technical Skills: Strong time management, analytical and mathematical skills, Proficiency in MS Office and Modeling Software Preferred.
Physical Requirements
    • Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to, sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
    • Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.
