Job Description
We seek an experienced Hospital Inpatient Coder to extract data from patient encounters with high accuracy. The ideal candidate will possess strong coding skills and be able to work effectively in an acute care environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- *Assign ICD-9 and/or ICD-10 codes to the highest level of accuracy for each inpatient encounter.
- *Work closely with physicians, clinical documentation improvement specialists, quality staff, and patient finance teams.
- *Play a crucial role in billing, research, internal and external reporting, and regulatory compliance.
- *Ensure accuracy of DRGs and proper extraction of core data into the HIM abstracting system to the data warehouse repository.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be considered, candidates must have:
- *5 years of experience in inpatient and outpatient coding in an acute care environment.
- *High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- *Coding proficiency evaluation completed.
- *Extensive knowledge and understanding of MS-DRGs, disease process, clinical pharmacology, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
