Assistant Director

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to serve as the Assistant Director of the Writing Center at Dartmouth College. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the undergraduate peer-tutoring and Writing Assistant programs, designing and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance student writing and communication skills, and recruiting, training, and supervising peer tutors and Writing Assistants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Hiring and Training: Manage the recruitment, training, and supervision of undergraduate tutors and Writing Assistants, including overseeing quarterly hiring processes and guiding senior staff tutors.
- Assessing Writing Center: Create quarterly and annual reports detailing tutor capacity, utilization, and performance, as well as the overall impact of the Writing Center.
- Budget Responsibilities: Track and manage expenses and compensation for Writing Center staff each quarter.
- Leadership of the student senior staff team: Lead regular training sessions to prepare senior student staff to conduct workshops effectively.
- Liaising with other offices at the College: Work with various college offices to align writing tutoring needs and best practices.
- Training and support for key campus support programs: Coordinate and deliver training for FYSEP and SEAD program staff.
Requirements:
- Education: Masters degree in English, Education, Communication, Writing Studies, or a related field.
- Experience: At least three years in writing center roles, with proven experience in supervising students and familiarity with the ethos of a selective liberal arts college.
- Skills: Solid understanding of writing instruction practices, strong consensus-building and teamwork skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
