School Nurse

Position Summary:


The Allegheny Intermediate Unit seeks a skilled School Nurse to provide healthcare services for students enrolled in the Special Education Center Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, documenting, and managing the health care needs of all students, promoting wellness and disease prevention for staff and students, and collaborating with colleagues to ensure comprehensive care.



Duties and Responsibilities:


Perform required health care services, including care for injuries, acute illnesses, medical procedures, and medication administration. Provide screening and referral for health conditions, specialized first aid and emergency care when necessary, and maintain comprehensive health records for all students. Complete state-mandated screenings, provide direct nursing service for students with special health needs, and plan and deliver a wellness program for students in the school. Provide health information and resources for staff, manage applications for Free and Reduced Lunch, and complete state required paperwork. Maintain communication of a medical nature with parents/guardians, follow administrative policies and rules governing students, and provide required medical information for IEPs and reevaluation reports.



Qualifications:


The ideal candidate will possess a PDE School Nurse Certificate (preferred) and a RN (required) with experience working with students with disabilities. Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, students, business and educational partners, and the general public. Ability to manage medical emergencies, work collaboratively with co-workers, and utilize e-mail, Microsoft Office programs, and student informational systems to manage communication, information, and records.



Working Conditions:


The physical demands of this position require sitting for extended periods, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling 35 pounds, and ability to kneel, crouch, bend, and reach to retrieve and handle teaching materials and supplies. Adequate vision to perform duties, hearing clearly, and ability to speak clearly and distinctly when communicating with limited English speaking customers.
