Job Title: Environmental Services Manager

Job Summary:

The Environmental Services Manager is responsible for coordinating the daily activities of the Environmental Services department, ensuring an efficient and timely delivery of service to patients, family members, staff, and visitors. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage compliance with all EVS and EOC regulations and standards as required by the JCAHO, EPA, OSHA, Federal, State, and local governments.
  • Schedule staff to provide coverage of all necessary assignments and adjust allocation of resources to match ongoing changes in hospital needs.
  • Identify future work (short and long term), plan appropriate resources, and complete tasks toward improving overall appearance levels.
  • Assist in formulating and implementing goals and objectives for the department.
  • Maintain compliance with departmental programs such as patient surveys, quality control inspections, cycle cleaning programs, and performance improvement, among others.
  • Perform rounds of assigned areas several times a day to check environmental conditions and correct deficiencies; observe cleaning techniques of staff and provide appropriate feedback; report all safety, plant engineering, and other problems and follow-up to ensure all issues are resolved.
  • Coordinate receipt, distribution, completion, and follow-up of work orders.
  • Assess and recommend environmental improvements in cooperative agreement with Plant Engineering and other hospital department managers and staff.
  • Assist the EVS Director in preparation of budgets for areas of responsibility.
  • Drive team member engagement and patient experience initiatives across the department.
  • Monitor and justify any significant monthly variances on supplies, purchased services, or salaries and hours budget.
  • Authorize benefit time for staff.
  • Update and approve payroll.
  • Oversee and advise topics of environmental concern including infection control, interior design, pest control, storage, sanitation, materials selection, safety, and other facility issues.
  • Oversee and direct waste management issues including RMW, recycling, solid waste, and hazardous materials.
  • Ensure department equipment is maintained in proper working and sanitary condition; provide direction on minor repair of department equipment.
  • Participate in all aspects of staff training including identifying performance gaps for training topics; developing training modules to address performance issues; facilitating training sessions; and providing appropriate follow-up to ensure that staff members are utilizing skills demonstrated in training.
  • Perform all activities relative to employee performance and behavior including interviewing and hiring, providing coaching and counseling, and employing disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Direct and supervise the work activities of all supervisors, ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed and enforced.
  • Adhere to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational & Managerial Competencies.
  • Perform other special projects and duties as assigned by the Director of EVS and/or Vice-President of Hospitality Services.
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in Business, Health Care, Hotel Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Housekeeping or Facilities Management.
