Position Overview: The Physical Therapy Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering prescribed rehabilitation services under the guidance of a licensed physical therapist.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of current or temporary licensure in the state of West Virginia or relevant state licensure where services will be provided. Permanent licensure is required within 90 days of employment.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one year of experience in a relevant healthcare setting (acute care, outpatient, skilled nursing facility, home health).

Core Responsibilities: The following duties outline the essential functions of this role. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

  1. Utilizes established research and effective methodologies to prevent or address conditions that hinder mobility and daily functioning, implementing care plans developed by the supervising physical therapist.
  2. As appropriate to the work environment, assesses and adjusts priorities for patient care activities based on individual needs and available resources, collaborating with nursing staff to enhance patient handling protocols.
  3. Educates patients and caregivers on treatment plans, safety precautions, and equipment usage, ensuring comprehension through demonstration and documentation.
  4. Maintains accurate records of all treatments in accordance with departmental standards, under the supervision of the primary physical therapist.
  5. Processes billing for services rendered, adhering to departmental guidelines and utilizing the electronic medical record system.
  6. Provides oversight for students and volunteers to ensure effective supervision and learning opportunities.

  • Requires specific visual abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
