Position Overview

As the Head of Student Admissions and Middle School Initiatives, you will be responsible for the strategic oversight of our middle school programs and the recruitment of new students. This role is crucial in laying the groundwork for students' educational journeys, beginning in the summer after their sixth grade. You will manage the annual admissions process, collaborating with educational leaders and community stakeholders to identify and enroll a diverse cohort of students.

Key Responsibilities

Student Recruitment and Admissions
  • Design and implement effective recruitment strategies to achieve enrollment goals for the Middle School summer program.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, school administrators, and educators to identify potential candidates for our programs.
  • Utilize data analysis to inform recruitment and admissions decisions, ensuring a targeted approach to student engagement.
  • Train and guide staff and volunteers in the admissions process, including application reviews and family interviews.
  • Curate the selection process for incoming students, ensuring a smooth transition into the program.
Middle School Program Development
  • Lead the planning and execution of our signature Middle School Summer Program and After-School initiatives.
  • Engage families through personalized communication and educational workshops during the middle school years.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure effective student advising throughout the academic year, focusing on best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Align all programming with organizational goals and strategic priorities.
Program Evaluation and Data Management
  • Work with leadership to establish metrics for program success, including student engagement and academic performance.
  • Oversee data collection processes to support a culture of learning and improvement.
Partnership Development
  • Forge and nurture partnerships with educational institutions and community organizations to enhance program visibility and impact.
  • Represent the organization at various professional and community events to advocate for our mission.
  • Collaborate with the Development Team to create volunteer opportunities that align with student success initiatives.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 7 years of leadership experience in educational or nonprofit settings focused on youth development and college access.
  • Deep understanding of the challenges faced by first-generation college students and their communities.
  • Proven track record in developing engaging educational programs for middle and high school students.
  • Strong communication skills, with a preference for bilingual candidates.
  • Experience in program evaluation and data-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to manage and mentor a team effectively, fostering professional growth.
  • Strong organizational skills and experience with project management tools.
  • A commitment to the mission of NAFSA and a belief in the potential of all students to succeed.
