Job Description:

Work in the preparation, cooking, serving, and distribution of food. Operate and maintain specialized food service equipment, and perform general facility and equipment sanitation maintenance in accordance with federal, state, and department guidelines. Serve as a lead worker.

Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:

  • Perform job responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • Clean work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, and silverware
  • Clean, peel, slice, and trim foodstuffs using manual and electric appliances
  • Conduct or assist with food supply requisitions and sanitation and maintenance inspections
  • Coordinate the daily work schedule of cashiers with the cafeteria manager
  • Monitor the cash registers and cashier's breaks
  • Observe safety, sanitation, and health rules and standards
  • Portion food or place it directly on plates for service to facility residents, employees, or patrons and package takeout foods
  • Prepare foods
  • Receive payment for food items
  • Replenish supplies of food, condiments, and equipment at steam tables and service bars
  • Serve as a lead worker to assigned food service workers
  • Store food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage
  • Take customers' orders and serve customers
  • Train workers in food preparation, and in service, sanitation, and safety procedures
  • Unpack and store supplies, raw, and prepared food products

Sample Technical Competencies:

  • Ability to operate a cash register and reconcile receipts and reports
  • Knowledge of the usage of food preparation equipment
  • Ability to understand and follow recipes, equipment instructions, and sanitation procedures
  • Knowledge of food handling and preparation
  • Knowledge of health and sanitation rules
  • Ability to perform responsibilities independently

For this type of employment, state law requires a national and state background check as a condition of employment.

High school diploma or GED and one year of experience in the area of assignment or one year of experience at the lower level Food Svc Worker 2 (FFS011) or position equivalent.
