Sales Associate

POSITION OVERVIEW


The Sales Associate plays a vital role in guiding customers through their shopping experience, which includes welcoming them, managing cash transactions, and packaging purchases.

This position requires a friendly, respectful, and professional demeanor while embodying the core values of Goodwill, which include Empowerment, Public Trust, Respect, Innovation, Quality, and Safety.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver outstanding customer service by welcoming shoppers, assisting in product selection, and suggesting additional items. Maintain a tidy and organized store environment by restocking shelves, returning items to their designated locations, rearranging displays, cleaning, and performing other maintenance tasks. Manage inventory rotation and handle salvaged goods. Collaborate with store leadership and fellow team members to ensure donations are efficiently processed for sale.
  • Execute sales transactions using a point-of-sale system, accurately counting and providing change to customers. Balance the cash drawer at the start and end of each shift. Ensure the security of the cash register and store inventory while being vigilant to prevent theft.
  • Support fellow sales associates during breaks, lunches, and in emergency situations.
  • Address customer inquiries and complaints courteously, escalating issues to the Store Manager or Crew Leader when necessary.
  • Maintain consistent attendance, adhere to personal grooming standards, and comply with the dress code, including wearing company-issued identification. Participate in required meetings and training sessions.
  • Follow and enforce safety and loss prevention protocols to protect personnel and property.
  • Contribute to the achievement of departmental and organizational goals.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Exhibit exceptional customer service abilities.
  • Demonstrate the capacity to manage multiple tasks while remaining attentive to customer needs and adaptable to business demands.
  • Work collaboratively with others in a respectful and cooperative manner.
  • Function effectively as part of a team and take initiative without direct supervision.
  • Possess strong reading, writing, and communication skills.
  • Exhibit basic mathematical proficiency.
  • Availability for a flexible work schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience with cash register operations.
  • Bilingual capabilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, stoop, bend, and crouch for extended periods.
  • Adaptability to various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, and the ability to work outdoors for prolonged periods in humid or dusty environments.
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. or more with assistance.
