Minimum Entry Level Qualifications
1. Experience and/or Level of Competency: Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Texas.
2. Academic Preparation: Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Completion of SANE certification is essential.

Job Summary:
The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) is responsible for delivering prompt, empathetic, and unbiased care to individuals who have experienced sexual assault. This role encompasses conducting forensic examinations, providing prophylactic treatment for potential pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, documenting findings through photography, and facilitating referrals for necessary medical and psychological support. The SANE will adhere to established protocols set forth by the Medical Director and/or management of the SANE Program.

Specific Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate care among all agencies involved in supporting the sexual assault victim and ensure appropriate referrals for medical and psychological follow-up.
2. Accurately perform and document sexual assault forensic interviews.
3. Conduct comprehensive physical examinations and forensic evidence collection, including a thorough assessment for trauma, genital examinations, and photographic documentation.
4. Precisely document injuries with photographic evidence to support findings.
5. Maintain the chain of custody for each examination and comply with evidence handling protocols.
6. Uphold professional standards that safeguard patient confidentiality and avoid conflicts of interest.
7. Remain sober and free from drugs or alcohol while on-call.
8. Administer prophylactic medications according to established protocols.
9. Provide testimony as a fact witness in legal proceedings related to cases handled.
10. Maintain clinical expertise as a SANE by fulfilling ongoing training and certification requirements.
