Radiation Oncology Care Coordinator

At Medstar, we are seeking a skilled Radiation Oncology Care Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our Radiation Therapy Program, you will play a vital role in the coordination of patient care across the continuum of Radiation Oncologic care. Your primary responsibilities will include performing the intake, assessment/triage, coordination and navigation of all patients referred to for Radiation Therapy. You will serve as a liaison for referring physicians seeking information, or access to the system, and screen patients for appropriate information and manage the acquisition of pertinent medical records for initial appointments. Additionally, you will facilitate the evaluation of patients by interfacing with referring physicians and MGUH services, including: Radiology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Medicine and other MGUH services, as needed. You will also coordinate the complex management of patients at various stages of their diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, collaborating with all disciplines involved in the patient's care, to assure timely progress toward the best clinical outcome in the most effective manner.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform the intake, assessment/triage, coordination and navigation of all patients referred to for Radiation Therapy.
  • Serve as a liaison for referring physicians seeking information, or access to the system.
  • Screen patients for appropriate information and manage the acquisition of pertinent medical records for initial appointments.
  • Facilitate the evaluation of patients by interfacing with referring physicians and MGUH services, including: Radiology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Medicine and other MGUH services, as needed.
  • Coordinate the complex management of patients at various stages of their diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, collaborating with all disciplines involved in the patient's care, to assure timely progress toward the best clinical outcome in the most effective manner.
  • Identify opportunities for patient participation in clinical trials. Communicate information to physicians, research coordinators and referring physicians to promote clinical trial enrollment. Responsible for clinical trial Informed Consent and specimen collection as needed.
  • Navigate the patient/caregiver through the continuum of care, providing education and resources about medical condition, diagnostic procedures, treatments, clinical trials, support services, hospital processes, and other relevant information.
  • Serve as an ongoing resource for patient/caregiver education and support.
  • Communicate patient's progress/disposition to health care providers.
  • Aid in maintaining outcome database.
  • Aid in the management of IRB communications and regulatory updates.
  • Has a working knowledge and access to multiple electronic systems to facilitate patient care and documentation.
  • Attend Oncology tumor Board.
  • Work closely with physicians and marketing department to develop marketing ideas and materials to promote Radiation Therapy Program.
  • Identify needs and develop patient education and support material.
  • Provide community education and outreach.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area.
