Job Description and Duties

The Criminalist Manager is responsible for overseeing the California Criminalistics Institute (CCI), ensuring the coordination, planning, organization, direction, and management of the institute's operations. This role also involves bureau-wide responsibilities in the areas of planning and policy.

The Criminalist Manager oversees the operation of the institute to provide bureau staff, visiting scientists, and university students with current and consistent classes in method development, forensic evidence collection, and analysis. This is critical to meet the objectives of the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and plan the institute's operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Manage the institute's budget and resources.
  • Supervise and mentor staff, including criminalists, scientists, and support personnel.
  • Collaborate with other departments and agencies to achieve the institute's goals.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as forensic science, criminalistics, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a related field, including experience in forensic evidence analysis and management.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks.
