About the Company:

Macdonald & Company is a leading real estate development and investment firm focused on industrial and commercial projects across the US. The company is well-capitalized and seeks a seasoned development leader to oversee the execution of multiple projects nationwide.

About the Role:

The Development Lead will be responsible for leading the execution of development projects in various markets, reporting to the President and CIO. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Acquisition Team to perform due diligence on prospective projects, with primary responsibilities for assessing the physical property, including existing buildings, environmental, and geological factors. The Development Lead will develop project schedules, manage 3rd party consultants/designers, work with local authorities to obtain project approvals, develop and manage project budgets, and hire/manage General Contractors and/or Subcontractors to deliver projects on time and within budget.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting thorough due diligence on new development opportunities, including managing density, entitlement, environmental, title/survey, and geotechnical assessments by third-party vendors.
  • Coordinating entitlement processes, meeting with municipal officials, and conducting community outreach.
  • Leading the design process from inception through construction documents, collaborating with internal team members and project consultants to deliver exceptional projects.
  • Negotiating final contracts and all change orders regarding price and schedule.
  • Interface with utility companies and other parties as needed to ensure project timelines are met.
  • Supervising Development Managers and delegating tasks as appropriate to ensure all tasks are completed.
  • Assisting the Acquisition Team in market assessments and investment underwriting.
  • Providing regular project updates, including financials, schedule, and other relevant details, to Company leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Real Estate Development, Engineering, or related field required.
  • 10 years of professional experience with a minimum of 5 years related land development or civil engineering experience.
  • A working understanding of building laws and compliance concerning the design, permitting, and construction of various sized projects.
  • Knowledge of financial principles as they relate to development projects, with the ability to calculate complex figures, forecast, and prepare budgets.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal colleagues as well as outside engineers, architects, 3rd party consultants, planners, and elected officials.
  • Exceptional organizational and follow-up skills required, along with the ability to multi-task and bring individual issues to timely closure.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, with a positive attitude.
  • Demonstrated project management and team skills, allowing you to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple concurrent projects with little supervision, and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Thorough understanding of MS Office and Google Workspace products, especially Excel/Sheets.
  • This role will require up to 25% travel.
