Bus Coating Specialist

POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Under the supervision of the Paint Cell Leader, this role is designed for an individual who is eager to acquire the necessary skills for cleaning and preparing buses for subsequent paint applications.
The candidate will also develop the competencies required to apply primers and finishing paint coatings, with assistance from the Painter I, while adhering to the established procedures set forth by our coating supplier and New Flyer.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must be proficient in applying tape and/or decals according to customer specifications. Completion of all assigned training within the designated timeframe is essential. The candidate must successfully pass all sections of the paint application skills assessment upon completion of training.
Training Requirements Include:
The individual must possess wrist flexibility to ensure effective spray technique, maintain a straight paint gun trajectory, and achieve an even coat of material, along with proper triggering of the paint gun. It is crucial to maintain the correct distance between the paint gun and the surface being painted, as well as to follow the appropriate overlap guidelines. The candidate should be able to identify and rectify any defects prior to applying coatings.
Proper preparation of the bus for finishing coatings is required, which includes masking, taping, using a blower to eliminate loose dirt and debris, cleaning, and tacking.
The individual must be capable of disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling the spray gun as needed. Personal protective equipment, including a full-face respirator, gloves, and a paint suit, must be worn during the application of coatings. All company 5S standards must be adhered to.Additional Responsibilities
Complete hand spray check sheets for each color.
Ensure the booth is cleaned before bringing in the bus, including areas behind the robot rail.
Remove any scrap materials, such as paper or scotch-brite, prior to painting the bus.
Clean any buses that remain idle over the weekend.
Scotch any bus requiring paint if it has been stationary for more than three days.
All secondary containers must be properly labeled.
Flammable materials must be covered, labeled, and stored in a fire cabinet overnight.
All buses painted with robots must have a completed check sheet.
Booth doors should remain closed unless a bus is being moved.
Buses prepared for painting should not be touched with bare skin or clothing; gloves and Tyvek suits are mandatory.
Trash must be disposed of at the end of each day.
Record paint shake data in the designated book located in the mixing room.
