Department Overview:

Applied Technology Services (ATS) operates as an internal service entity dedicated to delivering exceptional technical services and expertise to all business sectors within Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E). Located at PG&E's San Ramon Technology Center, ATS comprises a diverse team of around 130 engineers and technical specialists who engage in projects at the ATS San Ramon facilities and in various field locations.

The role of the Engineer is situated within the Inspection & Equipment Innovation division at ATS.

Position Summary:

The Junior Innovation Engineer is primarily tasked with supporting the new inspection technology initiative for ATS, alongside other projects that contribute to ATS' mission of providing high-value, innovative, and proactive solutions to PG&E's business sectors in a cost-efficient manner. Additionally, the engineer will assist senior engineers in strategic planning, management, budgeting, communication, performance evaluation, and ongoing enhancement of the program. The goal is to ensure the program operates efficiently and effectively for our clients while aligning with our overarching strategy.

Salary Range:

PG&E offers a salary range that reflects the company's good faith estimate for this position at the time of posting. This range is specific to the job's locality. The actual salary will be determined based on various factors, including skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. While we anticipate that the successful candidate will be positioned towards the middle or entry point of the range, decisions will be made on an individual basis.

  • Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area): $90,000.00
  • Mid Base Salary (Bay Area): $113,000.00
  • Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area): $136,000.00

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist senior engineers in engaging with external research entities, consortia, and academic institutions to identify and adapt innovative solutions within the Applied Technology Services (ATS) framework aimed at enhancing safety, customer satisfaction, cost efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts to identify and assess new technological concepts and equipment, as well as to evaluate and implement promising technologies.
  • Support senior engineers in fostering partnerships and securing buy-in from internal stakeholders and leadership to prioritize projects focused on evaluating new inspection technologies.
  • May oversee project evaluation outcomes and prepare presentations and recommendations for internal clients and leadership.
  • Maintain open communication with all stakeholders involved in the program, providing critical updates as necessary.
  • Identify potential innovations and cost-saving opportunities related to new and existing technologies, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic objectives.
  • May interact with clients to provide project status updates or gather additional information, ensuring client expectations are met.
  • Assist in the design and standardization of testing plans for projects, selecting appropriate standards, methods, and protocols, and reviewing these plans with senior peers or supervisors.
  • Support the development of metrics to measure the program's success.
  • Provide mentorship and oversight to rotational and intern engineers.
  • Fulfill the responsibilities associated with the role of an ATS Engineer, Associate.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in engineering research and testing methodologies, concepts, and practices.
  • Familiarity with current and emerging technologies utilized in technical testing within the relevant specialty.
  • Understanding of quality assurance and control principles.
  • Strong investigative and analytical problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective communication, presentation, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Basic project management and leadership abilities.
  • Comprehension of customer service principles.
  • Willingness to travel 5 - 15% as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a focus on a relevant discipline (e.g., mechanical, civil, electrical engineering, computer science, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer License.
