This role involves managing patient care and executing treatment strategies in partnership with patients, their families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing respiratory care requirements and applying diagnostic evaluations and therapeutic interventions with expertise.
  • Documenting patient care in accordance with professional standards and departmental protocols.
  • Effectively communicating patient responses to respiratory therapy and suggesting necessary adjustments to care plans.

This position also involves mentoring new learners and students. Innovative use of technology to enhance patient care is encouraged, along with active participation in evidence-based practices and the integration of new knowledge from respiratory research.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy educational program.
  • Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy is required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 12 months of experience in acute/critical care respiratory therapy.
  • Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Licensure to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification is mandatory.
  • RRT-ACCS and RRT-NPS credentials are required within two years of employment; ACLS certification is required within three months for specific roles.

This role requires prolonged standing, frequent travel, and bending/stooping. Candidates should possess proficient communication, auditory, and visual skills, and may encounter exposure to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious diseases.
