Position Overview

The City and County of Denver is home to the largest Sheriff Department in Colorado, encompassing various divisions and operations with a dedicated team of over 1000 personnel. Our operations include managing multiple detention facilities, providing security for court systems, and overseeing inmate transportation and related duties.

The Denver Sheriff Department is currently seeking skilled individuals for the role of Law Enforcement Records Technician. This position is situated within the Operations Division, specifically in the Records Unit at the detention center. The primary responsibility of this role involves the thorough research, modification, updating, and overall administration of records pertaining to individuals in custody.

Successful candidates will work a 4/10 schedule, which may include weekends, evenings, and holidays. The available shifts are as follows:
  • 1st Shift - 2:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • 2nd Shift - 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • 3rd Shift - 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM
  • 4th Shift - 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM
All candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation, which includes a review of employment and criminal history.

Key Responsibilities

The Law Enforcement Records Technician will be tasked with:
  • Analyzing and interpreting intricate information; approving or rejecting documentation in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Reviewing and monitoring case files and related documents to ensure compliance with relevant statutes and governing policies.
  • Preparing and processing legal documents such as orders, warrants, and bonds, ensuring adherence to court procedures and legal standards.
  • Determining inmate eligibility for release and managing the associated documentation and financial records.
  • Entering, retrieving, and recording data from various legal documents and communication forms into the database system.
  • Conducting research to gather necessary information for accurate record processing and liaising with multiple agencies for clarification.
  • Communicating effectively with law enforcement agencies, court personnel, inmates, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinating records for the processing of various prisoner categories.
  • Performing additional related duties as assigned.
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A solid understanding of legal terminology and documentation formats.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in interpreting federal, state, and local laws.
Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSET, or TASC Certificate).
  • Experience: A minimum of three years of clerical experience, with at least two years in a court, law enforcement, or legal environment.
  • Education & Experience Equivalency: A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered, with the exception of the two years of experience in a legal setting.
  • Certification: Candidates must pass an initial pre-security clearance screening and maintain certification with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation as a condition of employment.
