Location Description:
Michael Foods, Inc. in Wakefield, Nebraska, is recognized as the Baseball Capital of Nebraska. Our egg-processing operations were established in 1950, and we are committed to raising chickens and producing liquid egg products for our processing facilities.

Responsibilities:

JOB SUMMARY:


This role requires adherence to safety protocols at all times and emphasizes the importance of safety as a fundamental value.

Ensures compliance with all policies, procedures, and practices related to Food Safety & Quality, aiming to minimize product and process variability.

This position oversees daily farm operations, including managing staff and ensuring adherence to proper animal husbandry standards.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fosters a safe working environment for all personnel.
Participates in the Safety & Risk Management Process, completing all safety audits, scans, and inspections.
Accountable for the overall safety of team members.
Adheres to safe work practices, follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), maintains sanitary conditions, and ensures product quality is upheld. Reports any conditions or practices that may jeopardize food safety, quality, or personnel safety to management.
Strives to produce the highest quality products at the lowest possible cost while adhering to good manufacturing practices.
Identifies and addresses operational issues to minimize their impact on production.

Coordinates with maintenance, contract crews, and other personnel as needed to achieve desired production levels and quality, safety, and service standards.

Collaborates with all departments to ensure a cohesive working relationship.
Manages feed usage and departmental costs.
Keeps accurate and current records (e.g., payroll, operating budget, UEP records, etc.). Enforces company policies consistently and fairly.
Encourages employee suggestions for improving production, quality, safety, and cost control.
Assigns tasks to department personnel and holds them accountable.
Orders, maintains, and inventories parts.
Travels to and works at various locations. Responsible for adhering to all UEP guidelines regarding animal care.
Keeps the Production Manager and relevant parties informed about operational, quality, safety, or employee matters.
Maintains consistent communication and coordination with the Production Manager.
Conducts monthly departmental meetings.

Qualifications:

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
Level 6 Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

EXPERIENCE:

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Level 4 Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors, or employees of the organization.
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Level 5 Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, fractions, ratios.

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.

REASONING ABILITY:


Level 4 Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES,

REGISTRATIONS:
Driver's license

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
College degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bilingual preferred but not required.
Able to train and motivate department personnel.
Coordinate and supervise all department functions.
Able to supervise department personnel in a fair and consistent manner.

Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, SAP, On-Line Animal Housing Systems, etc.) Must be able to work overtime or weekends when required.

Must be able to respond to emergencies as needed (alarm systems, safety, etc.) in a timely manner. Recognize problem situations and take appropriate steps to resolve them.

Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and team leadership skills.
