Job Summary:

As a Nurse with Middlesex Human Service Agency's Middlesex DUIL Program, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the medical safety and stability of potential clients presenting for admission to our two-week residential, educational program for second-time driving under the influence offenders. You will be responsible for screening clients to assess their ability to complete the program, serving as a medical resource, and helping prevent the admission of clients who may not be physically or emotionally able to participate.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain open and professional communication with clients, staff, and external contacts.
  • Conduct interviews and screen incoming clients, serving as a knowledgeable medical resource for non-medical staff screening clients.
  • Review client background and medical history questionnaires for inconsistencies and potential problems.
  • Monitor for signs of substance dependence and alcohol or drug withdrawal.
  • Check client vital signs as necessary.
  • Verify client medications for accuracy, including the correct medication, dose, schedule, and sufficient quantity for 14 days.
  • Ensure that medications align with physician instructions and adhere to Middlesex DUIL Program medication protocols.
  • Assist in the overall client admission process.
  • Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws and MHSA policies.
  • Coordinate client medical services as needed.
  • Order and maintain necessary medical supplies.
  • Perform customary duties necessary for providing appropriate medical care.
  • Attend in-service training and outside instruction as directed by the supervisor.
  • Abide by all MHSA policies regarding boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
  • Fulfill various other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor to ensure the program's success.

Requirements:
  • LPN required; RN preferred.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse and AIDS/HIV, with one year of related work experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification required.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Portuguese) preferred.
