About the Role:
We are actively seeking Engineers to collaborate with our talented, interdisciplinary team to effectively implement a wide range of engineering initiatives from initial planning to project completion.

With a focus on sustainable infrastructure, Associate Civil Engineers and Assistant Engineers in the Capital Projects Engineering Division engage in various engineering activities to design and execute public works, utilities, and related projects across multiple city departments. The Capital Projects Engineering Division comprises a diverse and committed team of Engineers, Technicians, Surveyors, and administrative staff, tasked with projects aimed at rehabilitating, upgrading, and expanding the city's infrastructure. This includes transportation projects, facility renovations, creek restoration, and water and wastewater infrastructure improvements. The City is also exploring innovative project delivery methods to enhance efficiency.
We have several openings to fill and are eager to build a diverse engineering team to manage our upcoming project demands. The level of appointment as Associate Civil Engineer or Assistant Engineer will depend on the candidate's licensure. We warmly invite interested candidates to apply.

Qualifications:
  • Experience in the design and construction of public or private infrastructure
  • Strong interest in public service
  • Possession of an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) Certificate or a professional engineer registration in civil engineering in California
  • Ability to leverage engineering, technical, and communication skills to optimize infrastructure management
  • Capability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

Selection Process:
Applicants with the most relevant qualifications will be invited to continue in the selection process, which may include a review of applications and supplemental questionnaires, followed by interviews.

Working Conditions:
Working conditions vary by department and assignment. Incumbents will communicate with others both in person and via telephone, respond to inquiries, and conduct public education activities related to projects. All positions require reading and interpreting construction drawings and plans, as well as field inspections to ensure compliance with design standards. Incumbents may also need to prepare reports, estimates, and feasibility studies related to infrastructure projects.
