Position Overview

Canam is on the lookout for a Project Accountant to become a vital part of its Finance Team in Frederick, MD. This role encompasses the management of the project accounting module, overseeing revenue recognition activities, assessing the general ledger impacts of project transactions, and maintaining comprehensive project master files. Key responsibilities include project forecasting, validating billing processes, managing project closures, supporting audit activities, and ensuring compliance and precision in project accounting transactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct project forecasting to establish a foundation for revenue recognition.
  • Evaluate revenue recognition transactions in alignment with project forecasts and record monthly revenue figures.
  • Maintain project accounting master files to guarantee accurate and current information.
  • Collaborate with the invoicing team to ensure the accuracy of project billing.
  • Oversee coding for project purchase orders and accounts payable, ensuring precise cost tracking.
  • Facilitate the closure of projects to confirm that all financial and contractual obligations are met.
  • Manage project retention and oversee deposits related to contracts.
  • Generate detailed financial reports for stakeholders to aid in decision-making.
  • Assist in the audit process for project accounting.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and contribute to the enhancement of project accounting practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Business or Accounting or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and complex formulas.
  • Experience in the construction industry is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven capability to meet deadlines.
  • Team-oriented with excellent communication skills.
  • Aptitude for analyzing a variety of issues arising from the diverse nature of projects managed.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French is an advantage.
