Job Summary

The City of Delano CA is seeking a highly skilled Water Distribution Operator I to join our team. As a Water Distribution Operator I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and repair of the city's water distribution system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Measure, cut, join, and tap steel, cast iron, remove asbestos, cement, copper, and plastic water pipe.
  • Install meter boxes, vaults, and residential, industrial, commercial, and hydrant meters.
  • Repair rings and lids.
  • Replace or repair meters.
  • Turn water service on and off for repair work and notify customers.
  • Install or repair water production and transmission facilities and equipment.
  • Pump flooded areas.
  • Perform weed abatement work and apply pesticides.
  • Replace and repair concrete and asphalt after repairs are completed.
  • Perform concrete work.
  • Operate various motor vehicles.
  • Perform routine vehicle and equipment maintenance, and make vehicle and equipment safety checks.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of hand-operated and powered mechanical equipment used in street, landscaping, and general maintenance activities.
  • Wash and clean assigned vehicles.
  • Assist other divisions in maintenance work, or serve as temporary relief for other division employees.
  • Perform a variety of other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent certificate or diploma recognized by the State of California.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations during off-hours.
  • Failure to acquire or maintain required certificates within the time provided will lead to termination of employment at the end of the appropriate period.
