Position Overview

Dewberry is seeking a Structural Resilience Engineer to join our esteemed Resilience Solutions team. The ideal candidate will collaborate with renowned specialists in hazard mitigation and building science to gather and analyze data related to building codes, standards, and effective practices aimed at reducing the effects of natural disasters such as floods, high winds, earthquakes, and wildfires on both residential and commercial structures, as well as critical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate independently and with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, architects, and hazard mitigation experts to implement projects supporting FEMA's Building Sciences Branch.
  • Draft, review, and enhance FEMA technical publications and reports; prepare outreach materials to disseminate findings effectively.
  • Assist in the creation of hazard mitigation and building science training sessions, including workshops and online webinars; conduct training at FEMA's Emergency Management Institute and in various settings.
  • Guide both Dewberry and external personnel in completing tasks in diverse environments as necessary.
  • Track project progress against established scope, timelines, budgets, and quality standards; allocate resources efficiently to achieve project milestones.
  • Engage in business development, proposal writing, and client relationship management as required.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Architecture, with a specialization in structural design.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, including the ability to create reports, presentations, and informative materials.
  • Ability to instruct hazard mitigation training workshops for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Capability to convey complex technical concepts to a general audience.
  • Interest and aptitude for leading project tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four-year degree in Civil Engineering or Architecture; advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA), or an Engineer in Training (EIT) or architect with relevant experience aiming for PE or RA certification.
  • Certification as a Floodplain Manager (CFM) or willingness to obtain within the first year of employment.
  • Experience in building forensics, disaster recovery, and resilient design for buildings and infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with International Code Council (ICC) building codes and industry standards relevant to natural hazard resilience.
  • Interest in project management and public speaking experience.
  • Experience working within interdisciplinary teams and developing digital content using software tools.
