Job Title: Imaging Specialist I

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Imaging Specialist I to join our team. As an Imaging Specialist I, you will play a critical role in supporting the scientific needs of researchers at Fred Hutch by assisting both researchers and other team members in basic tasks.

This is an exciting opportunity to get acquainted with various imaging techniques in a multidisciplinary environment. This is an entry-level position with substantial room for growth. The ideal candidate will possess good organizational and analytical skills, be familiar with fluorescence microscopy techniques, and show a desire and ability to rapidly learn new skills.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine laboratory maintenance tasks, operating sophisticated scientific instruments, and assisting users of the facility with instrument operation and data analysis.
  • Perform imaging studies using Cellular Imaging instruments, including acquiring images, communicating with investigators, and executing image analysis pipelines.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance for microscope hardware, software, and computer workstations. Assist in supply management.
  • Assist in developing team SOPs, training materials, and guidelines for investigator use.
  • Report results to users, perform basic billing requirements, and facilitate data transfer and archiving.
  • Establish and maintain positive collaborative working relationships with faculty, researchers, and external users to identify scientific needs.
Requirements:
  • Associate Degree and 1+ years of experience, or GED/High School Diploma and 3+ years of experience.
  • Bachelors in Biology, Biophysics, or Engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new systems and techniques.
  • Previous experience using and a basic understanding of light microscopy, especially live-cell and widefield fluorescence microscopy.
  • Basic understanding of image processing software (e.g. ImageJ/FIJI).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative small-team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, etc).
