As a vital member of the clinical office team, you will be responsible for gathering intake information for a designated patient demographic, executing tasks and treatments as assigned by licensed personnel, and providing direct patient care as needed. You will also be in charge of scheduling tests and procedures as directed by the physician and offering limited patient education and guidance related to these tests and procedures.
In specific locations, you will act as the onsite administrator, subject matter expert, and/or mentor for the practice and facility.
Key Responsibilities
PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY)
Engage in communication that is appropriate for the patient population. Possess knowledge of developmental milestones and tasks. Provide clear instructions to patients and their families regarding treatment. Involve family members or guardians in the assessment, initial treatment, and ongoing care of the patient. Identify any physical limitations of the patient and implement interventions as necessary. Recognize and respond appropriately to patients and families experiencing behavioral health issues. Analyze population-related data and plan care accordingly. Identify and address unique psychological needs or those associated with cultural or religious norms. Administer treatments, medications, or operate equipment safely. Recognize and respond to signs or symptoms of abuse or neglect.
Administrative Duties -
Utilize computer applications for various tasks Answer phone calls and greet patients Update and maintain patient medical records Code and complete insurance forms Schedule appointments and arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services Manage correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping tasks Assist in implementing age-appropriate care for specific patient populations, including direct patient care as part of the clinical team Obtain vital signs, EKGs, laboratory specimens, and other necessary information for proper patient evaluation while adhering to universal precautions Aid the provider in documenting notes, orders, and prescriptions by preparing them in the Electronic Medical Record, pending them for provider review, editing, and signing as necessary Prepare and maintain the clinic area, including cleaning and stocking examination rooms, setting up and securing computer equipment, and maintaining diagnostic tools Return routine patient calls, such as prescription refills or pre-certifications, as directed from the Electronic Medical Record with appropriate documentation Coordinate ancillary services such as diagnostic testing/imaging, hospital procedures, additional patient visits, and the acquisition of relevant medical records Maintain a positive, professional, and cooperative demeanor in all interactions with patients, staff, physicians, and management Ensure a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations, and maintaining patient confidentiality. Understand and adhere to the legal responsibilities and requirements of the medical assistant role. Seek knowledge and understanding of quality measures and patient experience. Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills
Education: Graduate of a medical assistant program is required.
Preferred: Certified or Registered MA from AAMA, NHA, NCCT, NAHP, ARMA, AMT, or AMCA.
Years of Experience: Seven to eleven months of equivalent experience is preferred.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with patients of diverse educational backgrounds. Capacity to remain calm and effective in emergency situations. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks. Proficiency in managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines successfully. Familiarity with electronic health record software.
