Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Accountant III to join our team at Fairfax County Sheriff's Office. As a key member of our Finance and Accounting team, you will play a critical role in processing and analyzing financial and investment transactions, providing subject matter expertise, and preparing and maintaining financial reports.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and analyze financial and investment transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations
  • Provide subject matter expertise on investment accounting and financial reporting
  • Prepare and maintain financial reports, including the county's annual comprehensive financial report (ACFR)
  • Supervise staff in preparation of complex financial reports and coordinate training opportunities for county departments
  • Participate in the development and implementation of countywide policies and procedures
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Considerable knowledge of governmental accounting and fiscal management principles, methods, and practices
  • Ability to plan, direct, and supervise the activities of professional accountants
  • Ability to prepare and/or coordinate the preparation of comprehensive, complex accounting reports and records
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) accreditation
  • Five or more years of experience working as an accountant
  • Self-motivated, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, detail-oriented, ability to multitask, work independently and prioritize tasks
Working Conditions
