General Overview:
As a vital member of the pharmacy team, the Oncology Pharmacy Technician II plays a crucial role in assisting licensed pharmacists with the preparation and distribution of medications tailored for oncology patients.

Key Responsibilities:
1. **Advanced Technical Support:**
- Performs specialized technical functions to enhance pharmacy operations, ensuring the efficient delivery of medications.

2. **Medication Preparation:**
- Under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist, prepares a variety of medications, including oral, topical, and parenteral forms, ensuring proper selection, labeling, and packaging.

3. **Order Management:**
- Inputs physician orders into the hospital's computer system, updating patient profiles and associated charges accurately.

4. **Customer Assistance:**
- Provides support to patients, nurses, and physicians regarding medication orders and pharmacy-related inquiries.

5. **Inventory Oversight:**
- Monitors inventory levels and expiration dates of medications, replenishing stock as necessary to maintain optimal pharmacy operations.

6. **Quality Control:**
- Conducts regular inspections of patient care areas to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

7. **Automated Dispensing Management:**
- Responsible for filling and replacing medications in automated dispensing machines, ensuring timely delivery to nursing units.

8. **Compounding and Packaging:**
- Compounds medications in bulk or per individual orders, preparing private stock orders and unit-of-use packaging as required.

9. **Regulatory Compliance:**
- Maintains controlled substance inventory logs and records, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.

10. **Training and Orientation:**
- Participates in the onboarding process for new pharmacy technicians, familiarizing them with departmental operations and systems.

11. **Workstation Maintenance:**
- Ensures that workstations are kept clean and organized, promoting a safe and efficient working environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
- **Education:** High School Diploma or GED required.
- **Experience:** A minimum of 18 months of hospital experience is required; completion of an approved pharmacy technician training program may substitute for six months of experience.
- **Licenses and Certifications:**
- Pharmacy Technician Registration is required.
- Certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or an equivalent national certification must be obtained within 180 days of employment.
