We recognize that proper nutrition plays a vital role in healthy growth, and we are in search of a dedicated and talented Culinary Specialist to ensure our children enjoy wholesome and appetizing meals.
Role Summary:
The Culinary Specialist will take charge of planning, preparing, and serving meals that align with USDA nutrition standards. This individual will collaborate closely with childcare personnel to design balanced menus that cater to the dietary requirements and preferences of young children, including those with allergies or specific dietary restrictions. The ideal candidate should be organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about fostering a positive dining experience for our children.
Primary Duties:
- Prepare and cook meals and snacks for children in compliance with USDA nutrition standards and center policies.
- Design weekly menus that are nutritious, suitable for the age group, and meet children's dietary needs.
- Ensure appropriate portion sizes and appealing food presentation.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen and food preparation area in accordance with health and safety regulations.
- Oversee food inventory, order supplies, and manage food costs efficiently.
- Accommodate special dietary needs, including allergies and cultural preferences.
- Work alongside childcare staff to ensure smooth meal service.
- Keep accurate records of food temperatures, cleaning schedules, and meal counts as required by USDA and licensing standards.
- TRAINING/ASSISTANCE PROVIDED. Knowledge of USDA guidelines is NOT MANDATORY. Willing to train the right candidate.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience as a cook.
- Familiarity with USDA nutrition guidelines for children is a plus, but not essential. Willing to train the right candidate.
- Food Handler's Certification or the ability to obtain certification upon hire (cost covered by employer).
- Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to design menus that accommodate diverse dietary needs.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Genuine passion for working with children and enhancing their well-being.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as chopping, stirring, mixing, and bending.
