Job Summary

The Maintenance Journeyman performs a variety of general maintenance activities and assists other mechanics with repairs to mobile equipment to ensure optimal production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assists mechanic and skilled personnel with maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Performs mechanical work and repairs on mobile equipment, including procuring and moving parts, materials, and tools.
  • Operates hoists, mechanical equipment, and powered tools to perform repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Uses oxy-acetylene torch equipment to perform light or medium cutting jobs and welds basic welds.
  • Shovels and cleans up work areas, stores and transports used and damaged equipment, and performs safety walk-around inspections.
  • Replaces or assists other workers as needed and maintains a good housekeeping of equipment.
  • Adheres to all CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA rules and regulations and wears proper safety equipment while on plant grounds.
  • Meets or exceeds company safety standards and performs other job responsibilities as assigned by management.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to carry out complex oral and written instructions and deal with problems from standardized situations and work experience.
  • Good mathematical skills, including basic math, fractions, and conversions of four-five digit numbers and common units of measurement in both metric and decimal systems.
  • Ability to read and understand English sufficiently to read technical information contained in manuals, reports, and operate equipment in reverse using mirrors.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and/or moving of 50 pounds maximum, with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate well with supervisors, welders, leadmen, other Mechanics, maintenance personnel, co-workers, and outside contractors.
  • High level of attentiveness and physical coordination to perform work activities safely and productively.
Working Conditions

Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and working outdoors. Must wear protective equipment while at the location.

Physical Requirements

Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Must be able to perform all job functions, including but not limited to, pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls.
