Job Summary

As a Program Aide with The Salvation Army, you will play a vital role in leading children's activities at our after-school program. Your responsibilities will include classroom training, tutoring, sports activities, bible study, computer programs, and specialized programs. You will also be responsible for preparing and serving children's lunch and snacks, assisting with field trips, and maintaining the cleanliness of the after-school area. Additionally, you will transport passengers in a Salvation Army vehicle.

Essential Functions

This job description outlines the essential functions and requirements of the position. The incumbent may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this job description.

Child Care Responsibilities (40%)

As a Program Aide, you will provide constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner. This includes preparing and serving children's snacks and meals, ensuring they receive nutritional and tasteful food, and providing a positive and relaxed atmosphere during mealtime. You will also exhibit control of the children and display proper discipline techniques when necessary. Additionally, you will prepare and maintain up-to-date records and required reports, including attendance, development progress, discipline reports, and accident reports.

Organizing, Planning, and Teaching Lessons (30%)

You will develop and implement lesson plans that are age-group program specific, utilizing age-group appropriate discovery areas and enriched with program-specific activities. You will also determine appropriate supplies and materials for lesson plans and recreational activities, ensuring the children's safety in utilizing the same. Additionally, you will provide opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities.

Driving Responsibilities (20%)

You will transport or assist with transporting children whenever needed, ensuring their safety and protection at all times. You will also assist in leading children on field trips.

Cleaning Responsibilities (10%)

You will clean the kitchen, classrooms, tables, vehicles, floors, and other areas in accordance with established sanitary standards.

Other Responsibilities

You will attend and participate in regularly scheduled in-service training sessions and perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

You will possess knowledge of the principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development, as well as First Aid and the ability to ensure the safety of children. You will also be able to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army and teach children Christian values and general childhood education curriculum. Additionally, you will be able to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood programs and activities.

Minimum Qualifications Required

You will need a high school diploma or equivalent and one to two years' experience teaching child development programs or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. You will also need to pass all state licensing background checks and possess a valid State Driver's License, valid CDL - Class B (preferred), and CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain).

Physical Requirements

You will need to be able to meet attendance requirements, read, write, and communicate the English language effectively, observe children and ensure their safety, and drive a Salvation Army vehicle safely observing all laws, regulations, and policies. You will also need to pass DOT requirements to drive a Salvation Army midbus or other DOT vehicle if requested.

Working Conditions

You will work in an indoor and outdoor environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
