Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Sign Language Interpreter to join our team at Soliant. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a critical role in ensuring effective communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their teachers and peers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpreting Services: Provide accurate and confidential interpreting services during classroom instruction, school activities, meetings, and other educational settings.
  • Communication Facilitation: Facilitate communication between students and teachers, ensuring that students have equal access to academic instruction, classroom discussions, and other educational activities.
  • Collaboration and Support: Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other educational professionals to ensure that classroom materials and resources are accessible to students.
  • Assessment and Testing: Provide assistance during assessments and testing situations, including interpreting exam questions, prompts, and instructions for students.
  • Professional Development: Stay updated on current trends, practices, and educational resources related to ASL interpretation and deaf culture.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language or a related field.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Certifications: 4.0+ EIPA or NIC certification.
  • Experience: Experience working as an ASL interpreter in an educational setting is strongly preferred.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, teachers, and staff.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability to meet the individual communication needs of students with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Sensitivity: Sensitivity and respect for the unique needs and experiences of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Technology Skills: Proficiency in using technology and interpreting software to support interpreting services.
