The role of the Systems Engineer involves overseeing the activities that maintain the IT infrastructure across various locations. This encompasses the implementation, testing, and support of server, storage, and network computing requirements.

Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a related discipline is required. Alternatively, seven years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of formal education.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning:

  • Collaborate with IT personnel to develop tactical and strategic plans ensuring that infrastructure (network, server, storage) capacity aligns with current and future needs.
  • Assist in formulating an enterprise architectural plan for the overall logical and technical infrastructure across all sites.
  • Support the creation and execution of an infrastructure capacity plan.

Acquisition and Deployment:

  • Plan, procure, and manage the installation of corporate and remote hardware and software products, upgrades, and standards for the organization's network.
  • Engage with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure optimal pricing and service level agreements.

Operational Management:

  • Ensure effective performance and operation of servers, including email, print, backup, application, and database servers along with their respective operating systems and software.
  • Oversee the effectiveness of security solutions, including firewalls, anti-virus measures, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for all systems and services.
  • Continuously assess new technology platforms to enhance organizational strategies, cost efficiency, and infrastructure adaptability.
  • Establish best practices for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end-user workstation hardware, software, and peripherals.
  • Provide advanced support for both custom and commercial software and hardware.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Track service level agreements with end users.

Position Requirements:

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum of seven years' experience in a mid to large-scale organization.
  • Strong commitment to customer service and ability to build rapport with users.
  • Experience in manufacturing and shop floor environments is advantageous.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting hardware such as servers, storage devices, routers, switches, and network interface cards.
  • Experience with designing, configuring, and monitoring VMware ESX server products in a multi-server, multi-site context.
  • Familiarity with enterprise-wide network concepts including TCP/IP protocols, switching, routing, LANs, WANs, WLANs, and VPNs.
  • Experience with cloud technologies is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of server and PC operating systems, including:
    • Microsoft Windows and Windows Server
    • Microsoft Active Directory
    • Microsoft Exchange
    • O365
    • SharePoint Online
    • HP-UX and/or Linux experience is beneficial
  • Hands-on experience with configuring, installing, and monitoring storage area networking (SAN) hardware and software.
  • Basic administration skills with Microsoft SQL Server database software are a plus.
  • Understanding of data privacy practices and regulations.
