Job Overview

Position Title: Resident Care Specialist

Employment Status: Non-exempt

Work Schedule: Various Shifts Available

Reports To: Director of Resident Care Services / Wellness Director

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Experience in working with seniors in a residential or long-term care environment is also preferred.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is essential for effective communication with residents, families, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must be able to pass necessary certifications (e.g., CPR, First Aid, Food Handlers) as mandated by state regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Resident Support:

  • Assist residents with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, transferring, and mobility.
  • Engage residents in meaningful conversations and activities while providing personal care assistance.
  • Respond promptly to resident needs and requests for care, ensuring assistance is provided as necessary.
  • Uphold the rights of residents at all times.
  • Support and adhere to all company policies and care philosophies.
  • Monitor residents for changes in their physical, emotional, mental, or behavioral conditions, and report any unusual occurrences to a licensed nurse.
  • Document any changes in condition or behavior in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the dining area during resident meal times.
  • Encourage resident participation in scheduled activities and outings, providing assistance as needed.
  • Facilitate opportunities for residents to express themselves and enhance their self-esteem through individual or small group interactions.

Housekeeping Duties:

  • Make resident beds, empty garbage, and tidy resident rooms daily and as required.
  • Change bed linens according to community schedule and as needed due to incontinence.
  • Change towels on bath days and as necessary if soiled.
  • Assist with resident laundry following shift guidelines.
  • Maintain resident clothing and closets in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Clean dining room tables and chairs after meals and snacks.
  • Notify housekeeping staff of spills and soiled areas; assist with clean-up as needed.
  • Straighten common area furniture and decorative items as necessary.
  • Assist in cleaning mobility aids and other resident equipment as per community cleaning schedule.
  • Participate in dusting, vacuuming, and other housekeeping tasks as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Attend all required staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and contribute to a spirit of teamwork and cooperation within the community.
  • Answer phones as needed in a courteous manner.
  • Promote excellent customer service and positive community relations by treating residents, families, staff, and visitors with respect and friendliness.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work full-time or part-time as agreed upon, including weekend and holiday rotations.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

  • Medium work – Ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Must be able to see well enough to read and write, and to visually interact with residents, families, and staff.
  • Must be able to speak and hear well enough to verbally interact with residents, families, and staff.
