Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management
    • Assume responsibility for the oversight of NICU day-to-day operations, ensuring seamless delivery of patient care.
    • Act as a role model and mentor to charge nurses and staff, promoting a culture of empowerment and shared decision-making.
    • Develop and implement strategies to improve patient outcomes, staff engagement, and departmental performance.
  • Clinical Practice and Quality Improvement
    • Ensure adherence to hospital policies and procedures, as well as regulatory requirements.
    • Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and experiences.
  • Staff Development and Education
    • Develop and implement training programs to enhance staff skills and competencies.
    • Provide coaching and mentoring to staff members to support their professional growth and development.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and hospital policies related to staff education and training.
  • Financial Management
    • Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring effective allocation of resources.

Requirements
  • Education
    • A baccalaureate degree in nursing is required; a master's degree is strongly preferred.
  • Experience
    • Five years of work experience in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, with a preferred level of III and IV.
    • Three years of supervisory experience, including charge and preceptor roles.
  • Certifications and Licenses
    • Current District of Columbia Registered Nursing license.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate through the American Heart Association.
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certificate required.
    • Certification in leadership within one year of hire.
    • Nationally Certified as Neonatal ICU RN within one year of hire.
