ROLE DESCRIPTION
As a Psychological Services Specialist (PSS) within the Department of Corrections, your primary responsibility will be to independently deliver psychological services and facilitate group therapy sessions for inmates at your designated facility. This role is essential in addressing the mental health and emotional needs of individuals during their incarceration with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.

Your duties will include conducting individual assessments and selecting suitable psychological tests to evaluate cognitive abilities, personality traits, specific skills, and levels of achievement. You will also coordinate with professional staff to ensure that inmates with special mental health needs are referred for counseling, psychological, psychiatric, and medical interventions. Additionally, you will be tasked with preparing psychological documentation, including classification reports, clinical interview summaries, parole evaluations, and other necessary assessments. Collaboration with the Licensed Psychologist Manager will be key in developing innovative therapeutic educational programs, and you will provide initial crisis intervention for inmates until further professional support is arranged.

WORK SCHEDULE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  • Full-time position (37.5-hour work week)
  • Standard working hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute lunch break.
  • This role qualifies for comprehensive retirement benefits at ages 50 or 55.
  • Salary: Initial salary may be fixed, but additional compensation will be considered for candidates who hold or obtain licensure as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, or Professional Counselor from the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors. Documentation must be provided during the interview for salary consideration.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
    • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
    • Two years of experience as a Psychological Services Associate in Corrections; or
    • A Master's degree in psychology or a closely related discipline, including fifteen graduate-level credits in psychology, along with two years of relevant experience under the supervision of a licensed psychologist.
      Other Requirements:
    • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is mandatory.

    • Ability to perform essential job functions is required. Legal Requirement:
