ROLE DESCRIPTION
As a Psychological Services Specialist (PSS) within the Department of Corrections, your primary responsibility will be to independently deliver psychological services and facilitate group therapy sessions for inmates at your designated facility. This role is crucial in addressing the mental health and emotional requirements of individuals during their incarceration with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.

Your duties will include conducting individual assessments and selecting suitable psychological evaluations to gauge cognitive abilities, personality traits, special skills, and achievement levels. You will also coordinate with professional staff to ensure that inmates with special mental health needs are referred for appropriate counseling, psychological, psychiatric, and medical services. Additionally, you will be tasked with drafting and preparing psychological documentation for classification, clinical interview outcomes, parole assessments, psychological updates, and other necessary reports. You will collaborate with the Licensed Psychologist Manager to create innovative educational therapeutic programs and provide initial crisis intervention for inmates until further professional assistance is arranged.

WORK SCHEDULE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  • Full-time position (37.5-hour work week)
  • Standard working hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, including a 30-minute lunch break.
  • This role qualifies for full retirement benefits at ages 50 or 55.
  • Salary: Starting salary may be fixed in some instances.
    • Additional compensation may be available for candidates who possess or obtain licensure as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, or Professional Counselor issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors. Documentation will be required at the time of the interview for additional pay consideration.

      REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
      QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
    • Two years as a Psychological Services Associate in Corrections; or
    • A Master's degree in psychology or a closely related discipline that includes fifteen graduate-level credits in psychology, along with two years of experience in the psychology field under the direct supervision of a licensed psychologist.
      Other Requirements:
    • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is mandatory.
