Job Title: Leakage Survey Technician

At Peoples Gas System, we are seeking a skilled Leakage Survey Technician to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for performing area leakage surveys to detect, pinpoint, grade, and classify gas leaks using various electronic and manual testing equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct area leakage surveys on mains and services using mobile and walking survey methods.
  • Investigate leaks to determine precise location and classification, and complete necessary documentation.
  • Create and maintain leakage survey reports and related documentation.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record; a CDL may be required for certain positions/assignments.
  • Minimum one year of natural gas operations experience performing all aspects of leakage surveys.
  • Basic map reading skills and ability to operate a computer, communication devices, power tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions and possess sound judgment.
  • Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions and clearly express ideas verbally and in writing.
  • Working knowledge of relevant pipeline regulations.
Working Conditions:

Overtime work includes weekends and holidays. May require flexible hours, including nights, based on business needs. Must be able to work outdoors for extended periods and in potential safety hazards.

Physical Demands/Requirements:
  • Ability to independently operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner.
  • Ability to independently enter/exit a motor vehicle as required during an eight-hour shift.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to grasp/handle small hand tools and other objects by applying pressure with fingers and palms.
  • Ability to pull, push, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Correctable vision to 20/40 and no average hearing loss greater than 40 decibels in the better ear at frequencies of 500, 1000, and 2000 with or without a hearing aid.
  • Ability to smell gas odorant in normal concentrations.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions by extending arms and hands in any direction with substantial movement of wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Ability to physically express ideas in writing.
  • Ability to rotate and revolve body (twist) to face in another direction.
