Position Overview

UPMC Horizon is seeking a Full-Time Clinical Laboratory Technician or Healthcare Laboratory Specialist to become part of their dedicated healthcare workforce. This role involves rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, and may require travel to support various UPMC locations.

  • Clinical Laboratory Technician salary range: $19.71-$30.28/hour.
  • Healthcare Laboratory Specialist salary range: $24.74-$34.48/hour.
  • Senior Healthcare Laboratory Specialist salary range: $26.48-$39.25/hour.

Sign-On Bonus Details:

Clinical Laboratory Technician: $7,000 for a two-year commitment.

Clinical Laboratory Technician: $10,000 for a three-year commitment.

Healthcare Laboratory Specialist: $10,000 for a two-year commitment.

Healthcare Laboratory Specialist: $15,000 for a three-year commitment.

CLINICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN (CLT):

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with all laboratory clients in a professional manner, responding to inquiries promptly and courteously.
  • Adhere to established testing protocols, ensuring precision and accuracy while recognizing critical test results and following up as necessary.
  • Independently conduct Moderately Complex or Waived tests, performing High Complexity testing under supervision.
  • Exhibit reliability and independent judgment, prioritizing tasks to meet departmental needs.
  • Document and perform Quality Control as per established protocols, reporting any unusual incidents to supervisory personnel.
  • Assist in training new staff, students, and residents, adhering to established operational guidelines.
  • Manage supplies effectively, ensuring cost-efficient use of materials and reagents.
  • Process specimens accurately, entering patient information and laboratory test orders into the laboratory information system.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and comply with all guidelines.
  • Follow all laboratory and hospital policies, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory instruments as required.

HEALTHCARE LABORATORY SPECIALIST:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with test development and evaluate methodologies and equipment.
  • Recognize and address critical test results according to established protocols.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, performing quality control checks and preventive maintenance.
  • Train and orient new employees and students as needed.
  • Perform all duties of a Clinical Laboratory Technician and maintain a thorough understanding of laboratory techniques and principles.
  • Ensure compliance with established laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Supervise the section/department temporarily as delegated.
  • Conduct High Complexity Testing independently.

SENIOR HEALTHCARE LABORATORY SPECIALIST:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional customer service to laboratory clients and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to laboratory policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with quality control and safety standards.
  • Identify and resolve issues related to test results and instrumentation.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of laboratory techniques and their implications on test results.
  • Assist with test development and implementation of new methodologies.
  • Supervise and train new staff as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Clinical Laboratory Technician: Associate's degree in laboratory science with certification or equivalent experience. Minimum of 6 months in a clinical laboratory.
  • Healthcare Laboratory Specialist: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and completion of an accredited Medical Technology program or equivalent experience.
  • Senior Healthcare Laboratory Specialist: Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.

Licensure and Certifications:

  • New York License required for positions in New York.
  • ASCP certifications preferred.
