Clinical Laboratory Technician

UPMC - Pittsburgh Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist to become part of our esteemed healthcare team. This role involves working on a rotating shift schedule, including weekends and holidays, and may require travel to support multiple facilities.
Compensation:
- Medical Lab Technician: $19.71-$30.28/hour
- Medical Laboratory Scientist: $24.74-$34.48/hour
- Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist: $26.48-$39.25/hour
Benefits:
We provide a comprehensive benefits package along with opportunities for career advancement. This position is also eligible for a generous sign-on bonus based on the commitment period:
- Medical Lab Technician: $7,000 for a two-year commitment, $10,000 for a three-year commitment
- Medical Laboratory Scientist: $10,000 for a two-year commitment, $15,000 for a three-year commitment
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage professionally with all laboratory clients, ensuring timely and courteous responses to inquiries.
- Adhere to established testing protocols, ensuring precision and accuracy in all laboratory processes.
- Independently conduct moderately complex or waived tests, with high complexity testing performed under supervision.
- Demonstrate reliability and sound judgment, prioritizing departmental needs effectively.
- Conduct quality control procedures and document findings, alerting supervisory staff to any anomalies.
- Assist in training new staff and students, adhering to established operational guidelines.
- Manage laboratory supplies efficiently, ensuring cost-effective use of materials.
- Process specimens accurately, entering patient information and laboratory orders into the system.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient data and comply with all regulatory guidelines.
- Follow safety protocols to maintain a secure working environment.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory instruments.
Qualifications:
- For Medical Lab Technician: Associate's degree in laboratory science with certification or equivalent experience; 6 months of clinical laboratory experience required.
- For Medical Laboratory Scientist: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and completion of an accredited Medical Technology program or equivalent experience; 1 year of hospital laboratory experience preferred.
Licensure and Certifications:
- New York License required for positions in New York.
- ASCP certifications preferred.
