About the Opportunity

The University of Minnesota invites applications for a Temporary Research Assistant position to support a summer research project focused on the effects of racial school segregation in the Twin Cities. The successful candidate will join a diverse workgroup of faculty, staff, and students to conduct comprehensive research on the topic.

As a key member of the project team, the Research Assistant will work closely with several faculty and staff members to contribute to various aspects of the research process. These will include:

  • Conducting thorough literature reviews
  • Extracting, organizing, and summarizing data from prior segregation studies
  • Acquiring and managing datasets, including data agreements
  • Cleaning and preparing data for analysis
  • Merging datasets and performing descriptive data analysis
  • Visualizing results and writing research papers

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of data analysis, statistical coding, and data manipulation in Excel, as well as an ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. A Bachelor's degree or enrollment in a degree program is required. The ideal candidate will be organized, logical, and detail-oriented, with a commitment to ethical research practices.

Compensation

The Research Assistant will receive an estimated salary of $25-$30 per hour, commensurate with experience, for approximately 20 hours of work per week over the summer. The total compensation package will be based on the number of hours worked and the candidate's level of experience.

Duration and Schedule

The Temporary Research Assistant position is a temporary, part-time position, expected to last approximately 12 weeks. The work schedule will be approximately 20 hours per week, with a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the research project.
