Job Summary

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago seeks a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Mechanic Foreman to oversee the performance of skilled tasks in the installation and maintenance of electrical circuits, apparatus, machinery, and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct the work of Electrical Mechanics and Electrical Mechanic Sub-Foremen, ensuring adherence to approved instructions, standards, plans, and specifications.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work assignments, requisitioning materials, supplies, tools, and equipment as needed.
  • Ensure shop equipment is up-to-date with current technology and in good working condition, recommending purchases or facilitating repairs and certification.
  • Oversee a safe and efficient repair shop, maintaining good housekeeping procedures.
  • Responsible for the custody and care of all tools and equipment used in performing electrical mechanic work.

Requirements

Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent and four years of journeyman-level experience in the electrical trade or two years as a sub-foreman in that trade. Additional experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of the electrical trade.
  • Knowledge of the national electrical code and other relevant codes and regulations.
  • Ability to plan, lay out, install, and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.

Working Conditions

Typical duties involve exposure to industrial equipment or operations, including working near operating mechanical equipment and loud noise. Duties may also involve working in close proximity to or in conjunction with construction activities, in various weather conditions, and in confined spaces or at heights.
