Westlake Dermatology is seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join our team in Austin, Texas. As a Histology Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting our dermatopathology lab by performing various histology procedures, maintaining equipment, and ensuring the highest quality of patient care.
Responsibilities- Histology Procedures: Utilize computer systems to process histology and immunohistochemistry specimen information according to standard operating procedures.
- Specimen Preparation: Embed specimens, perform routine microtomy, cut and mount paraffin sections onto microscopic slides, and perform routine and special staining procedures.
- Slide Preparation: Cover slips and route slides and protocols to pathologists, and prepare solutions for histology procedures.
- Quality Control: Implement histology and immunohistochemistry quality control procedures, maintain equipment in operating condition, and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.
- Cleanliness and Safety: Maintain the cleanliness of the workbench and surrounding area, and follow established safety and infection control procedures.
- Record Keeping: File paraffin blocks and microscopic slides, and understand and follow all safety and OSHA guidelines.
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
- Preferred Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Science.
- Experience: Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS.
