Westlake Dermatopathology is one of the largest dermatology, cosmetic surgery and dermatopathology group practices based in Austin Texas, with current expansion of clinic spaces in Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio. The dermatopathology lab services all of these clinic locations and is based out of our Westlake office in Austin, Texas. Westlake Dermatology has a focus on comprehensive dermatologic patient care, and the in-house dermatopathology lab achieves this high quality of care. Westlake is currently seeking a Histology Technician to join our Histology team.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Utilizes computer systems for processing Histology and/or Immunohistochemistry specimen information according to standard operating procedures.
- Embeds specimens
- Performs routine microtomy, cuts and mounts paraffin sections onto microscopic slides
- Performs routine and special staining procedures
- Cover slips and route slides and protocols to pathologists
- Prepares solutions for Histology procedures
- Implements Histology and Immunohistochemistry quality control procedures
- Maintains equipment in operating condition by performing and documenting routine preventative maintenance
- Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and documents action taken
- Maintains cleanliness of workbench and surrounding area, and follows established safety and infection control procedures.
- Files paraffin blocks and microscopic slides
- Understands and follows all safety and OSHA guidelines
- PHYSICAL DEMAND: Occasional pushing, stooping, stretching, pulling lifting (objects 5-10 lbs). Frequent standing, sitting, walking, carrying of small objects.
- Participates in all continuing education programs required to keep certification current in addition to continuing education programs.
Education:
Required - High school graduate or equivalent.
Preferred but not Required: An Associates or Bachelor degree in Science.
Experience: Preferred but not Required:
Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS
