Position: Supply Chain Operations Supervisor

Reports to: Logistics Manager

Department: Logistics/Shipping and Receiving

FLSA: Salary Exempt

Position Summary: This role is pivotal in overseeing the comprehensive materials and supply chain management operations. The individual will coordinate closely with plant staff, engineers, and program managers to ensure customer deliverables, bills of materials, and inventory management align with production schedules and shipping protocols. The Supervisor will lead the Logistics Department to achieve both departmental and organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and analyze production schedules, staffing requirements, and specifications to gather essential information regarding materials and priorities.
  • Compile and manage schedules and orders related to production, workflow, and transportation logistics.
  • Monitor workflow progress, providing necessary information and directing expedited processes.
  • Oversee inventory requisition and maintenance to fulfill production requirements.
  • Coordinate delivery arrangements and distribution of supplies to ensure timely material flow.
  • Examine documentation, goods, and processes to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Prepare status reports detailing production progress, customer interactions, and inventory levels.
  • Collaborate with personnel, vendors, and customers to facilitate processing and shipping, addressing any issues that arise.
  • Manage container logistics, including ordering, inventory control, and tracking.
  • Monitor customer delivery schedules, including dispatch and external service provider interactions.
  • Document goods received and manage material movements.
  • Engage with customs and brokers for incoming shipments.
  • Create and issue purchase orders or schedules for raw materials and components.
  • Conduct monthly inventory assessments.
  • Control and assess discrepancies in stock quantities.
  • Develop internal and customer packaging instructions.
  • Utilize EDI for customer order management.
  • Coordinate shipping and receiving operations while optimizing transportation costs through competitive quotes and freight monitoring.
  • Design and implement supply chain strategies that align with business objectives and adapt to market changes.
  • Establish procedures for effective coordination of supply chain activities with other departments such as sales, marketing, finance, production, and quality assurance.
  • Manage strategic purchasing, material planning, inventory control, warehousing, and receiving activities.
  • Assist in the coordination of engineering changes, product line expansions, or new product introductions to ensure seamless transitions in material and production flow.
  • Analyze supplier performance and procurement program effectiveness.
  • Evaluate inventory levels to enhance turnover rates, minimize waste, and optimize customer service.
  • Work with supply chain planners to forecast demand and create supply plans ensuring material availability.
  • Define performance metrics for evaluating supply chain factors such as cost and quality.
  • Develop and implement warehousing strategies for production materials and finished goods.
  • Establish and execute procedures for supplier evaluation and selection.
  • Document supply chain processes, including workflows, cycle times, and responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with procurement, engineering, and quality assurance teams to identify and qualify new suppliers.
  • Implement improved supply chain processes.
  • Meet with suppliers to discuss performance metrics and production forecasts.
  • Monitor forecasts and quotas to identify changes affecting supply chain activities.
  • Assess supplier performance to ensure quality and delivery standards are met.
  • Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers, vendors, and freight forwarders.
  • Evaluate vendor manufacturing capabilities through site visits and assessments.
  • Determine material handling equipment needs and staffing levels for efficient operations.
  • Develop forecasts for material costs and standard cost lists.
  • Create supply chain models to facilitate discussions with stakeholders.
  • Select transportation routes to maximize cost efficiency through shipment consolidation.
  • Review documentation, materials, and processes to ensure compliance with established standards.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably within the automotive sector.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Supply Chain Management.
  • Proven experience in strategic sourcing.
  • Extensive knowledge of Supply Chain and Materials Management principles.
  • Experience in operational and high-level production environments, with significant interaction across departments including Accounting, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive cost improvements and enhance organizational efficiency through teamwork.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, ideally in Logistics/Supply Chain Management or Business Management.
Technical Skills:
  • Experience with SAP is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with ASN, EDI, material handling, inventory, and logistics.
  • Experience in shipping and receiving operations is preferred.
  • Able to effectively engage with clients, vendors, and contractors.
  • Proficient in the MS Office Suite.
  • Capable of tracking inventory and finished goods.

The employee typically works in warehouse and office environments but may occasionally work outdoors in various weather conditions and on uneven surfaces.
