Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Heavy Equipment Transport Operator is tasked with the secure and efficient movement of industrial and commercial machinery to various job sites and branch locations. This role encompasses both local and long-distance transportation of equipment and supplies, along with the responsibilities of loading, unloading, and securing the machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely deliver and retrieve equipment for clients in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure the proper securing of construction machinery through chaining, strapping, and blocking, adhering to established safety protocols.
  • Conduct thorough pre- and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, checking for defects and ensuring safe operational conditions.
  • Report any vehicle issues, accidents, or traffic violations promptly.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks, including adding fluids and executing minor repairs as needed.
  • Accurately complete required daily logs and trip documentation in compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Address minor equipment malfunctions at job sites and execute necessary repairs.
  • Provide customers with demonstrations of safe equipment usage upon delivery.
  • Collect necessary signatures on rental agreements and related documentation.
  • Assist other departments as required, ensuring efficiency in operations.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Fundamental understanding of construction machinery and safe driving practices.
  • Familiarity with Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and DOT guidelines.
  • Knowledge of machinery, tools, and their maintenance and repair.
  • Strong customer service skills, including needs assessment and quality service evaluation.
  • Ability to conduct quality control analyses and evaluate performance.
  • Skills in operating and controlling machinery and systems.
  • Capability to select appropriate tools and equipment for various tasks.
  • Proficiency in navigating using maps and GPS technology.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean driving record and prioritizing safety.
  • Experience with hand tools and power tools used in mechanical repair.
  • Ability to comprehend written information and listen effectively to verbal instructions.

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of three years of driving experience is preferred, with verifiable over-the-road experience operating combination commercial vehicles.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • A valid Driver's License with Class A CDL certification and a DOT Medical card is required.
  • Experience in driving delivery trucks and towing construction equipment in high-traffic areas is beneficial.

Travel Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel extensively as required.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Capable of moving objects and utilizing physical strength without fatigue.
  • Frequent lifting of materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Good manual dexterity and coordination are essential for this role.
  • Ability to ascend and descend using both hands and feet, including climbing ladders.
  • Must be able to maneuver safely around and under equipment.
  • Required to respond to visual and auditory signals, including alarms and instructions.

Work Environment:

  • Work is primarily conducted in a vehicle or equipment.
  • Use of protective or safety equipment is mandatory.
  • Outdoor work is required, with exposure to various weather conditions.
  • May encounter distracting or uncomfortable noise levels.
  • Exposure to chemicals, steam, and high-pressure equipment may occur.
  • Significant time may be spent in confined spaces or elevated areas.
