Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Children's National Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing visual fields and visual acuity testing, as well as assisting physicians in performing special procedures and difficult examination techniques.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform visual fields and visual acuity testing as requested
  • Assist physicians in performing special procedures and difficult examination techniques
  • Perform orthoptic sensory evaluations and administer orthoptic eye exercises as recommended
  • Perform objective and subjective refraction and other technical evaluations (e.g. Ophthalmic Photography, ERG when applicable)
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year of ophthalmic technician or technologist training
  • 1 year of pediatric ophthalmology clinic training or work experience
  • Clinical experience and academic interest
  • Retinoscopy, Goldmann and Humphrey perimetry competence
  • Good communication skills with patients, parents, coworkers and physicians
Preferred Qualifications
  • Eligibility for Certification by JCAPO
