Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Children's National Hospital. As a key member of our eye care team, you will be responsible for performing visual fields, visual acuity testing, and other technical evaluations to support our physicians in providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform visual fields and visual acuity testing as requested by physicians.
  • Conduct orthoptic sensory evaluations and administer orthoptic eye exercises as recommended.
  • Perform objective and subjective refraction and other technical evaluations, such as ophthalmic photography and ERG when applicable.
Training and Development
  • Assist with orientation and instruction of residents and fellows in performing orthoptic examinations.
Physician Assistance
  • Assist physicians in performing special procedures and difficult examination techniques.
Safety and Quality
  • Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance.
  • Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation.
  • Stop in the face of uncertainty and take time to resolve the situation.
  • Demonstrate accurate, clear, and timely verbal and written communication.
  • Actively promote safety for patients, families, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Attend carefully to important details, practicing Stop, Think, Act, and Review to self-check behavior and performance.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1 year of ophthalmic technician or technologist training.
  • 1 year of pediatric ophthalmology clinic training or work experience.
  • Eligibility for Certification by JCAPO.
