Crisis Intervention Specialist

As a vital member of our Emergency Department, the Mental Health Technician plays a crucial role in supporting individuals facing mental health crises.
This position requires the ability to maintain composure in a dynamic environment, utilizing de-escalation techniques with a respectful and calm approach.
The primary focus is on ensuring the safety of our patients while fostering a therapeutic atmosphere. Collaboration with high-acuity psychiatric staff, emergency department personnel, and security teams is essential.
Key Responsibilities
As part of an interdisciplinary team, you will provide ongoing care and supervision to ensure a secure and safe environment for patients.
Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, you will assist with routine patient care tasks, including: helping patients with daily living activities, collecting clinical data (such as vital signs, height, and weight), and performing point-of-care testing.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment by ensuring hallways are free of clutter and managing linen disposal.
Participate actively in the patient's care plan.
Support the management of patients exhibiting aggressive behavior.
Monitor and care for patients requiring close observation, including those at risk of self-harm or elopement, as well as those in restraints or seclusion.
Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to set goals and adjust privileges based on patient behavior and care levels.
Qualifications
A High School Diploma or GED is required.
Preferred qualifications include an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in mental health or a related human services field.
Prior experience in healthcare or mental health settings is advantageous.
Strong communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Completion of required Workplace Violence Prevention Training is expected within six months of hire.
