Position Overview

As a vital member of our Emergency Department, the Crisis Intervention Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting individuals experiencing mental health crises.

This position demands the ability to navigate a dynamic and often unpredictable environment, utilizing de-escalation techniques while maintaining a calm and respectful approach.

The primary focus is on ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients, fostering a therapeutic atmosphere. You will collaborate closely with our high-acuity psychiatric staff, emergency department personnel, and security teams.

We seek candidates who possess a genuine passion for mental health care, demonstrate empathy, and exhibit a high level of emotional intelligence. Diligence in providing one-on-one support to patients in distress is essential.

This role involves working three 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule that includes days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities


As part of an interdisciplinary team, you will provide continuous care and supervision to ensure a secure and safe environment for patients.


Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, you will assist with routine patient care tasks, including: helping patients with daily living activities, gathering clinical data (such as vital signs, height, and weight), and performing point-of-care testing.


Maintain a clean and safe work environment by ensuring hallways are free of excess equipment and managing linen disposal.

Assist visitors and respond to telephone inquiries.

Participate in the implementation of the patient's care plan.

Support the management of patients exhibiting aggressive behavior.

Monitor and care for patients requiring close observation, including those at risk of self-harm or elopement, as well as those in restraints or seclusion.


Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to set goals and determine privileges based on patient behavior and care needs.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A High School Diploma or GED is required.

An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a mental health or human services-related field is preferred.

Prior experience in healthcare or mental health settings is advantageous.

Strong communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Completion of Workplace Violence Prevention Training is required within six months of hire.
