Position Overview: The Physician Assistant delivers high-quality, comprehensive primary healthcare services to patients within the Rheumatology department, collaborating closely with the supervising physician and adhering to established clinical protocols. This role reports directly to the Director of Specialty Care for administrative support, provider relations, and daily operational guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Conducts examinations, diagnoses, treats, and/or refers Rheumatology patients assigned to the physician's panel in an outpatient setting. Prescribes medications and treatment plans as deemed appropriate for assessed medical conditions, in consultation with the supervising physician.

2. Provides training to clinical support staff on accurate documentation practices related to Rheumatology and offers daily direction to team members. Reviews task completion status at the end of each workday.

3. Maintains electronic health records (EHR) for each patient in accordance with the organization's Health Information Management policies, ensuring appropriate and legible documentation. Completes thorough records of each patient visit and ensures that encounters are closed within 24 hours.

4. Ensures continuity of care by delivering medical services promptly as per the clinic schedule, within the scope of practice and training of the Physician Assistant.

5. Refers patients to appropriate specialty care services, laboratory tests, imaging studies, and other ancillary services as necessary for effective patient management, consulting with the supervising physician as required.

6. Reviews all laboratory and imaging reports for patients under care in a timely manner and makes informed medical management decisions in collaboration with the supervising physician.

7. Adheres to established productivity standards for specialty care as defined by the organization, maintaining efficient patient flow and minimizing schedule disruptions.

8. Provides exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders via various communication methods to assist patients with their healthcare needs.

9. Complies with departmental and clinic policies, procedures, and objectives, contributing to continuous quality improvement initiatives and safety standards.

10. Participates in health promotion, education, and prevention programs as necessary. Engages in clinic meetings, departmental meetings, and other functions as required by the Director of Specialty Care.

11. Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Master's Degree from an accredited institution in a Physician Assistant Program.

Prior experience as a Physician Assistant with a focus on Rheumatology or a similar specialty.

Must possess a current, unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant.

Completion of annual continuing medical education as mandated by board specialty.

Must be registered and hold a current DEA registration.

Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly preferred.

Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required.
